| Several hundred Chicago
labor union members and friends join HERE Local 1 on the picket
line. |
Including Tim Leahy,
Secretary Treasurer of the Chicago Federation of Labor (center). |
 |
 |
| A picket line is also
an opportunity to trade political gossip... |
SEIU was there, but
then, you knew that! |

Charles and Marilyn

affiliations. |

 |
| AFSCME Council 31 Executive
Director and Debs - Thomas - Harrington Awardee Henry Bayer (left)

AFSCME Council 31 Political Director, plots the future of the
Illinois legislature. |

 |
| Part of the occasion
for this rally on Wednesday, July 2, was the first distribution
of strike benefit checks. In order to receive the maximum amount,
members need to spend 25 hours a week on the line. A sign in
table is visible (sort of) on the lower left. |
Jim Duffet (far left,
blue shirt), Executive Director of the Campaign for Better Health
Care, walks the line. |
| HERE Local 1 strike
benefits are about enough to cover most rents and utilitiies
though just barely if you have a family. Nor are the union's
pockets endlessly deep. If you'd like to support the strike,
checks may be made out to HERE Local 1 Strike Fund with "Congress
Strike" placed in the memo line. Send it to HERE Local 1,
55 W. Van Buren, 4th Floor, Chicago, IL 60605. |
