Chicago socialists held a successful
Debs Day dinner in November featuring Norman Thomas and Sidney
Lens. More than 200 persons participated in the dinner, netting
the Chicago SP-SDF a sum of more than $1,000. Local Chicago also
organized a series of activities in connection with the recent
visit by Michael Harrington, editor of New America, to
that city. Harrington appeared on television and debated M. Stanton
Evans, editor of the Indianapolis News and author of a
new book on conservatism on the campus. The topic was: Should
students go left?
