Jackie
Kendall
You have devoted more than
two decades to the education and training of a generation of
activists.
You have inspired countless
individuals to devote their lives to social justice, becoming
professional organizers.
Your efforts have been
instrumental to the growth and development of scores of organizations
that utilize the power of people to take collective action on
their own behalf.
Every important progressive
movement of our time has been the beneficiary of the skills which
were learned and the thinking that was sharpened under your tutelage
at the Midwest Academy.
You have rejected the counsel
of the cynics and nay-sayers and, in the tradition of Norman
Thomas, Eugene Debs, and Michael Harrington, you have insisted
upon both the need for and the possibility of rebuilding a strong
left in this country.
For your dedication to
the fight for a just society, the Debs - Thomas - Harrington
Dinner Committee hereby presents to you its 1999 award.
