This Week in the CDSA (April 22 – 29)

Good Morning Chicago DSA

We had a pretty packed week last week, but this week is pretty light so we’ll have a chance to take a well earned breather. How is it well earned? Well, I’ll tell you!

Last Sunday we had the first general meeting of the year and a new Treasurer was elected to the Executive Committee! Huge congratulations to Ed Corcoran. Looking forward to the excellent work you’ll put into the chapter over your coming term.

This week also saw the Bowletariats, our SocFem bowling team that’s raising money for the Chicago Abortion Fund, hit and exceed their fundraising goal of $10,000! Congratulations and well done to all those involved. If you haven’t yet donated, there’s still time to get in a last second donation. You can do so by following this link!

Our City, Our Schools, a campaign run by our very own Public Education Working Group had a major victory this last week as well. Their slate of CDSA members and allies running for Local School Councils won 15 seats around the city of Chicago! They ran on a platform to fight CPS budget cuts, fight school closings and charter expansions, create sanctuary schools, keep classes below 20 students/fight staff cuts, and fight for a city-wide elected board. For a complete list of all the winners, more information on the the Local School Councils, and on how to get involved, follow the link above.

We’re building power, folks, and we’re doing it real, tangible ways. So, get excited and get involved, because we’re only just getting started!

Monday, April 23

  • Communications Working Group; 7 PM – 8:30 PM; CDSA Office; 3411 W. Diversey Ave.
Join the Communications Working Group for our March Meeting. We’ll be discussing our website/tech, social media, agitprop, video, podcast, and our print publications. We’ll also be discussing and voting on Working Group Bylaws. We’ve got a lot of projects to work on, and if you’ve never been to a CDSA meeting before, the smaller working group meetings are a great first meeting to attend and get involved! Our meetings are open to both members and non-members alike. We hope you join us?
