CDSA Membership Convention

Chicago Democratic Socialists of America (CDSA) is holding its Chapter Membership Convention on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Chicago Teachers Union (1901 W Carroll Ave)!

Check-in begins at 12:30 PM; please arrive early so that we can start promptly at 1:00 PM and end at 4:00 PM. This meeting is open to all, though only CDSA members are able to vote.

5/10/19 Update – We will be voting on new Chapter Officers at this meeting. Nominations will be accepted for all open positions until 12PM CDT on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Late nominations will not be accepted. Any member of CDSA in good standing can nominate themselves or another member to run for one of the EC Officer positions, so long as that member consents to running for the position. To nominate yourself or a comrade for an open EC Officer position fill out this form, and, if nominating yourself, attach a brief candidate statement: https://forms.gle/XAmBiPsPqiHxWrF48 Voting will be conducted electronically via opaVote from June 8 to June 10. Information on registering to vote will be included with the announcement of candidates via email to CDSA members. If you have any questions about elections please email our chapter secretary at [email protected]. 5/12/19 Update –  Members wishing to amend CDSA’s Chapter bylaws must submit such draft amendments (a “Draft Amendment Petition”) to the Co-Chairs ([email protected]) & co-chair-2@chicagodsa.org) and Secretary ([email protected]) twenty-one (21) days in advance of regularly scheduled membership meeting or the membership convention (end of day 5/18/19). The Draft Amendment Petition shall be signed by a Proponent plus ten (10) members of the Chapter. Discussion and a vote upon such amendments shall be listed on the membership meeting or membership convention agenda which is electronically mailed to the membership ten (10) days in advance of the meeting (5/29/2019). The Co-Chairs and Secretary, or an ad hoc committee convened for this purpose, may consolidate substantively similar draft amendments. To ensure robust debate and economy of time, no more than five (5) proposed amendments, chosen by the Co-Chairs and Secretary or the ad hoc committee created for this purpose, may be considered in one meeting.

How do I know if I’m a CDSA member? Anyone paying yearly or monthly National DSA dues is a member. If your dues have lapsed, you’ll receive a notice after you register for the meeting. You can pay dues here.

Will child watch be available? We are trying to make sure it is. Make sure to note that when you register so we can keep you updated.

Will food or drinks be provided? Water fountains are available, but unfortunately, no outside food or beverage is allowed in the meeting space, so please make sure to plan accordingly before or after the meeting. Is the location easy to get to? Chicago Teachers Union is on Damen Ave (50 Bus) & Carroll Ave. It is near the Ashland Green/Pink Line Stop. Get CTA directions here. There is metered street parking available. The location is accessible and there are gender neutral bathrooms available. Can I vote absentee?As of right now, only the Chapter Officer elections will be eligible for absentee voting. Everything else will be voted on in meeting.
