Fred Hampton and the Fight for Black Lives

February 3, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm UTC+0

Join us for a screening of documentary on Hampton’s life and death, followed by discussion with Janaé E. Bonsu of BYP100 and one of the framers of the Movement for Black Lives Platform.

Janaé E. Bonsu is an activist-scholar and organizer based in Chicago. Her political home is with Black Youth Project 100 (BYP100), a national member-led organization of 18 to 35-year-old Black activists and organizers dedicated to creating justice and freedom through a Black Queer Feminist lens. Janaé has played key roles in BYP100’s public policy agendas – the Agenda to Keep Us Safe and the Agenda to Build Black Futures, as well as the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) Vision for Black Lives: Policy Demands for Black Power, Freedom & Justice. Janaé is also a Ph.D. student at Jane Addams College of Social work, where her work focuses on Black women, state violence, and alternatives to state intervention.
