Health Care Justice

June 27 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm CDT

Join us for a rally to protest racism in our healthcare industry and demand one, excellent standard of care for all people.

Chronic, racist healthcare inequities have existed in this city and country for centuries. The racist murder of George Floyd sparked an uprising that demands our government change its priorities.

In the third largest city, in the richest country in the world, life expectancy for people in Streeterville is 90 years old and in Englewood it is 60 – even before COVID-19 arrived.

It is an outrage that 60% of the lives claimed by COVID-19 in Chicago were stolen from Black people – a city that is only 30% Black. We have extensive resources, but billions are spent on policing and incarceration. Billions more in tax cuts and TIF dollars sent to wealthy neighborhoods while many people of color don’t have adequate access to basic health care. Enough is enough!

We demand that Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Chicago City Council:
1. Defund the Chicago Police Department to fund healthcare and investment in our communities.
2. Close the racial healthcare gap in Chicago.
3. Reopen closed mental health clinics and create 911 alternatives.
4. Improve the availability of COVID-19 testing and contact tracing, especially for communities disproportionately impacted.
5. End Chicago Public School’s contract with CPD to fund student need – not the school-to-prison pipeline.
6. Demand that Congress approve Medicare and healthcare for all, regardless of immigration status.
