Solidarity Cinema – Finally Got the News

April 30 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm CDT

Thursday, April 30: Finally Got the News (Stewart Bird, Rene Lichtman, and Peter Gessner; 1970; 55m) + Black Liberation (aka Silent Revolution) (Edouard De Laurot; 1967; 37m); Screening 7pm CST at twitch.tv/solidaritycinema, Discussion 8:45pm; facebook event

Finally Got the News reveals the activities of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers inside and outside the auto factories of Detroit. Through interviews with the members of the movement, footage shot in the auto plants, and footage of leafleting and picketing actions, the film documents their efforts to build an independent black labor organization that, unlike the UAW, will respond to worker’s problems, such as the assembly line speed-up and inadequate wages faced by both black and white workers in the industry.

Produced in collaboration with Malcolm X and narrated by Ossie Davis, Black Liberation (aka Silent Revolution) is a call to arms that layers revolutionary text from multiple sources with gritty, shot-on-the-streets-of-New York footage of African-American struggle.
