Solidarity Economy Working Group Meeting

February 19 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm CST

Solidarity. Equity In All Dimensions. Participatory Democracy. Sustainability. Pluralism. These are the five principles uplifted by the US Solidarity Economy Network to define a solidarity economy.

Solidarity is a social cohesion developed through common struggle. A solidarity economy is how we build a parallel economic system in the present more aligned with our vision of a free, democratic, and egalitarian society which serves people and planet in ways extractive market capitalism can not and will not.

Our working mission to educate, advocate, and build a community of practice in Chicago around a vision of a democratic economy.

At this month’s meeting, we will:

–review upcoming city, state, and regional events and gatherings which are shaping a solidarity economy
–discuss personal ways we are working to further a solidarity economy
–brainstorm shared projects to grow our public understanding of a solidarity economy
–revisit shared project assignments for such as a zine/pamphlet highlighting Chicago’s solidarity economy initiatives
–learn from other developing initiatives elsewhere how those people and places are realizing a solidarity economy

We’re meeting at Harold Washington Library 7th Floor North. The library is ADA accessible however it does not have gender neutral bathrooms.
